Milan continues to grapple with a prolonged injury crisis, as Yunus Musah encounters a fitness issue that could potentially rule him out of the upcoming home match against Monza on Sunday. According to reports from Calciomercato, the American international sustained a muscle strain after the demanding Champions League encounter with Newcastle United on Wednesday.

Having arrived at Milan from Valencia during the summer, Musah swiftly became an integral part of Stefano Pioli’s tactical setup. The 21-year-old has made 13 appearances in Serie A this season, with nine starts since the team’s challenging 5-1 defeat to Inter in September. Despite not yet finding the net for Milan, Musah’s commendable work ethic and relentless midfield runs have earned him unwavering trust from Pioli, positioning him as Pioli’s equivalent to Gennaro Gattuso in the midfield alongside Tijjani Reijnders and Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Given the high level of intensity in Musah’s playing style, it’s not surprising that he is now dealing with muscle fatigue.

The decision now rests with Pioli, who faces a dilemma. With Milan seemingly looking to part ways with Rade Krunic, the Bosnian’s return to the starting lineup appears improbable. On a positive note, the team recently welcomed back the longstanding presence of Ismael Bennacer from injury, as he made a late cameo appearance against Atalanta last weekend. While Pioli might be hesitant to risk starting Bennacer, the available options are limited. Tommaso Pobega stands as an alternative, but his performances this season have been less than convincing.
