Signing Day Primer: Wrapping up Georgia’s 2024 class

The conclusion of the 2024 recruiting class is imminent, with the annual signing-day festivities set to commence on Wednesday. This year, the focus on the transfer portal is as intense as high school recruiting. Despite the calendar chaos, the early signing period is upon us, and Georgia, still maintaining its prowess, continues to recruit exceptionally well.

As we approach the early signing period, the 27 committed players for Georgia’s 2024 class are expected to sign. Several intriguing storylines surround the final stages of Georgia’s recruiting efforts for this cycle.

Throughout most of the 2024 recruiting cycle, Georgia has held a position as the potential No. 1 class. There were speculations about Georgia challenging the highest-rated class in rankings history, held by Texas A&M. However, due to a numbers crunch and a late flip from the nation’s top-ranked quarterback, Georgia’s chances of achieving the best-ever status for the 2024 class have diminished.

Despite the setbacks, Georgia maintains its top-ranking status. Dylan Raiola’s switch to Nebraska introduces an element of competition, but Georgia’s leading position appears secure.

Heading into the early signing period, Georgia has 27 commitments for the 2024 cycle. While more details about the Bulldogs’ signing day plans will be provided, the groundwork laid during the summer suggests a less eventful signing period than usual.

On the other hand, Ohio State and Alabama, with 22 commitments each, have more room to add commitments on signing day. Ohio State aims to retain Jeremiah Smith, a crucial factor in catching up with Georgia. Alabama is positioned with potential commitments from top targets. However, overtaking Georgia’s current class rating of 310.10 seems unlikely based on the numbers and the Bulldogs’ impressive average player rating of 93.31.

On the recruiting trail, Georgia appears poised to reclaim the No. 1 spot.

The recent flip of 5-star quarterback Dylan Raiola to Nebraska had raised concerns about other potential flips. However, the Dawgs247 staff anticipates no further exits from the class, as Georgia has effectively secured commitments from those who may have wavered.

The modern-day recruiting calendar’s peculiarities mean that several Georgia commitments have already completed necessary paperwork to enroll in Athens. These early enrollees have been participating in team activities and gaining firsthand experience of Georgia practices during Orange Bowl preparations.

The Dylan Raiola saga, a lingering concern, is officially in the past. With Raiola’s flip settled, Georgia can now focus on the remaining aspects of the 2024 class.

Known for creating Signing Day excitement, Kirby Smart has often witnessed unexpected events on the final recruiting day of the year. While Wednesday may seem less likely to feature surprises, the transfer portal has become Georgia’s primary focus. However, potential last-minute surprises include KJ Bolden, Marcellus Barnes, Terrell Anderson, and Amaris Williams, although none are currently expected to join Georgia’s class. If past signing day surprises are any indication, any behind-the-scenes developments would likely be a major surprise for everyone involved.
