Deonte Banks is excited to “compete against the best”

Banks has surrendered his share of plays this season, allowing 582 yards and five touchdowns in coverage. However, his rookie setbacks don’t faze the first-round pick. Banks maintains a short-term memory on the football field, approaching each play individually and eagerly anticipating the next challenge.

In his own words, Banks expressed, “You beat me, good on you. Next play, let’s go. My turn. Feel me? I love to compete, and I’ve seen the best of the best my first year. It’s fun, and I’m going to keep getting better.”

Throughout the season, Banks has faced off against top-tier receivers like CeeDee Lamb, Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, DK Metcalf, Terry McLaurin, and more. Despite this, he looks forward to his debut at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, where he’ll go up against the Eagles’ dynamic duo of AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith. Banks embraces the challenge, stating, “I’m sure it’s going to be wild, and I’m ready. I’ve heard the stories [about playing at the Linc], but I wouldn’t say I’m intimidated by anything. Competition isn’t something I’m scared of. I love to compete, and if you’re going to compete, go out and compete against the best. That’s how you become the best player you can be. I’m about now and the future. The past is the past, and we have a great opportunity to win a football game. Let’s try to go win it.”

AJ Brown has presented a compelling case for the league’s Offensive Player of the Year award with 1,314 yards and seven touchdowns this season. DeVonta Smith has also made a significant impact with 957 yards and six touchdowns. Banks acknowledges the formidable task ahead for him and the Giants’ secondary on Christmas Day, emphasizing that they’ll have their hands full, not with presents, but with the challenge presented by the Eagles’ dynamic receivers.

The Giants drafted a gem in Banks

In his inaugural NFL season, Banks has encountered some challenging matchups; nevertheless, it has proven to be a triumph overall. Confidence, a pivotal attribute for NFL cornerbacks, is in abundance for Banks. His assertive mindset has contributed significantly to his impressive stats, including 58 combined tackles, a team-leading 11 passes defended, and two interceptions.

As a rookie, Banks has showcased elite potential. Despite a few instances where he was outplayed and allowed some scores, the film reveals noteworthy moments of impressive pass breakups and solid coverage reps.

Looking ahead to the offseason, the Giants can rest assured with Banks as their top cornerback. While strengthening the secondary remains a priority, there is confidence in Banks’ capability to lead as the primary boundary cornerback for the team.
