Duke basketball freshman Jared McCain showcased an impressive performance, scoring a career-high 24 points in the Blue Devils’ 106-69 victory over Queens. Almost all of his points, except seven, were tallied in the first half, tying Kyle Filipowski for the most first-half points by any Blue Devil this season.
This marked McCain’s fourth consecutive game with at least 13 points, elevating his season average to 11.7 per game. The former five-star California prep also demonstrated his sharpshooting prowess, sinking four 3-pointers. Notably, the Blue Devils boast a perfect 5-0 record when he makes three or more shots from beyond the arc.
Duke head coach Jon Scheyer expressed admiration for McCain’s unique skills, emphasizing the importance of players being themselves within the team’s system. Scheyer praised McCain’s quick shot release and his readiness to shoot during the game. He highlighted McCain’s confidence and swagger on both ends of the court as significant factors in the team’s success.
