According to NFL analyst Brett Kollmann, the Minnesota Vikings, led by Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, made significant efforts to trade up for Anthony Richardson, who is currently with the Colts, in the previous year’s draft. Kollmann revealed on The Mina Kimes Show that the Vikings were prepared to offer a substantial package, including valuable assets, to secure Richardson. However, their potential trade partner chose a different route, anticipating the Vikings’ success and preferring higher draft picks.

Kollmann speculates that the Vikings may attempt to move up in the upcoming draft to acquire a quarterback. Currently holding the 12th pick, Kollmann identifies Jayden Daniels as a potential target, drawing parallels between Daniels and Kevin O’Connell in terms of playing style. He suggests that the Vikings’ interest in mobility and versatility, which they sought in Richardson, may also make Daniels an appealing option. Kollmann envisions the Chargers, holding the No. 6 pick, as a logical trade partner for the Vikings.

It’s worth noting that Kollmann’s information contradicts a May 2023 report from Tom Pelissero, who claimed that the Vikings would have only traded up for Bryce Young, the No. 1 overall pick. Additionally, there were conflicting reports at the time, with the Star Tribune’s Ben Goessling stating that the Vikings had interest in Richardson, who eventually went No. 4 to the Colts.

If the Vikings were indeed interested in Anthony Richardson, it’s reasonable to assume that Kwesi Adofo-Mensah is seriously considering making a move to secure a quarterback like Jayden Daniels or Michael Penix Jr. in the current draft. While acquiring top prospects like Caleb Williams or Drake Maye might be financially challenging, trading up a few spots to secure one of the top Heisman finishers from this year could be a more realistic option for the team.

Although Richardson displayed impressive potential for the Colts before his season-ending injury, the Vikings managed to make a solid pick with Jordan Addison at the 23rd spot in the previous draft. However, the team still faces a significant decision regarding the quarterback position, especially with Kirk Cousins approaching free agency. The options on the table include re-signing Cousins, selecting a quarterback early in the draft, or potentially pursuing both strategies to address the crucial position for the team’s future.
