The conclusion of the 2023 NFL season did not unfold as anticipated by Miami Dolphins enthusiasts. However, with the season now officially concluded, General Manager Chris Grier and Head Coach Mike McDaniel are already looking ahead to the next season. On Monday afternoon, the team disclosed the signing of eight players to reserve/future contracts.

As per the official website of the Miami Dolphins, the roster additions comprise cornerback Ethan Bonner, Tight End Tanner Conner, tackle Ryan Hayes, linebacker Quinton Bell, defensive tackle Brandon Pili, offensive lineman Chasen Hines, and wide receivers Anthony Schwartz and Braylon Sanders.

Out of the individuals Miami secured for future contracts, tackle Ryan Hayes stands out as the sole player originally drafted by the team. Notably, several of these players had stints on Miami’s active roster, yet only Bonner, Bell, Conner, Sanders, and Pili saw game time with the Dolphins.

If forced to make a choice among these players, my preference would likely lean towards defensive tackle Brandon Pili. Earlier in the year, my co-host, Jake Mendel, identified him as one of his dark horse candidates to secure a spot on Miami’s roster in the preceding spring. Considering the uncertainties surrounding the salary cap and Christian Wilkins’ recent deal, a defensive tackle could be a crucial addition for Miami in the upcoming season.

The likelihood of any of these players becoming household names is minimal. However, given the considerable number of roster spots available in 2024 for the team and the ongoing necessity to navigate the salary cap, opportunities may emerge. As history has shown, sometimes all a player requires is a chance to make a significant impact.
