The Florida Gators have been keeping in contact with Derry Norris, a three-star defensive lineman from Port Orange (Fla.) Spruce Creek, since they offered him in late March. On Thursday, defensive line coach Gerald Chatman and co-defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong visited Norris, with Chatman staying for practice.

As Chatman is still relatively new to the staff and Norris received the offer just over a month ago, he’s been working hard to build a quick rapport with Norris.

STORIES OF HOPE: 'They motivate us to always do better'

“We’ve really been connecting more since the offer,” Norris said. “Building a relationship with me and my family is important to me. Because of that, I have a lot of appreciation for Florida. Moreover, they’ve been keeping tabs on me even before the offer. Despite some coaching changes, they’ve stayed consistent. Since Coach Chatman arrived, he’s stayed in touch and continued recruiting me.”
