According to reports from Record, Wolves are now shifting their focus to David Carmo, who has returned to FC Porto following a loan spell with Olympiacos last season.
Carmo joined Olympiacos halfway through the 2023/24 season and made a significant impact, contributing to their victory in the Europa Conference League and earning a place in the Tournament’s Team of the Tournament due to his impressive performances.
Following the sale of Kilman, Wolves are now discussing the possibility of acquiring a new central defender, with Carmo reportedly being a player they are interested in. The club has intensified their efforts to sign him after parting ways with Kilman.
Porto is currently facing financial constraints, which might create an opportunity for Wolves to secure Carmo’s signature at a reasonable price this summer. While Porto previously valued Carmo at around £15 million, there is speculation that they might accept a lower offer.
However, Wolves may face competition from Olympiacos, who are eager to re-sign Carmo after his successful loan spell.
Carmo is viewed as a promising replacement for Kilman due to his left-footedness, physical presence, and ability to play in both three-man and four-man defensive setups. Additionally, his leadership qualities align with Wolves’ preference for players with strong character, similar to past successful signings like Craig Dawson and Mario Lemina in the 2022/23 season.
Wolves have ample time remaining in the transfer window to evaluate potential targets, but Carmo appears to be a leading candidate for the role. However, the interest from Olympiacos may necessitate prompt action from Wolves in negotiations.
