The Washington Commanders’ quarterback, Sam Howell, is quietly establishing himself as one of the NFL’s promising young talents, currently ranking second in passing yards. His performance has sparked hope among Washington fans for a potential franchise quarterback. Prior to joining the Commanders in the 2022 NFL draft, Howell had a noteworthy collegiate career with the North Carolina Tar Heels, breaking both school and ACC records over three years.

During his time with the Tar Heels, Howell faced the Virginia Tech Hokies three times, with two memorable clashes at Lane Stadium during the Justin Fuente era. When asked about playing in Seattle, known for its loud NFL stadium, Howell acknowledged the difference between road and home games. In response to a question about the loudest NFL stadium he has played in, Howell pointed to the Denver Broncos. However, he noted that he has experienced louder atmospheres in college, specifically mentioning Lane Stadium as the loudest. Howell recalled his first visit to Blacksburg in 2019, participating in an epic six-overtime game that ended with the Hokies victorious. Despite the challenges, Howell gave credit to Hokie Nation for creating an incredibly loud and impactful stadium atmosphere.
