The game wasn’t a smooth ride for the full 60 minutes, as is often the case in the NFL. However, what stands out after a hard-fought 182 minutes on Sunday is that the Cardinals, who had suffered six consecutive losses and eight out of nine this season, managed to secure a victory with a last-second score of 25-23 against the Atlanta Falcons.

Despite some challenging moments, including quarterback Kyler Murray’s return after an 11-month absence, during which he missed some passes, and the team’s struggle to generate takeaways for the third consecutive game, they found a way to win. Penalties, totaling 112 yards, further tested the team’s resilience, with two consecutive holding penalties pushing them to first-and-30 at midfield.

Despite these challenges, the offensive staff, led by coordinator Drew Petzing, adjusted well to Murray’s return, emphasizing the operational comfort crucial for the quarterback in a new system. Defensive penalties, particularly a questionable pass interference call leading to a Falcons lead, added to the tension, but cornerback Antonio Hamilton Sr. redeemed himself by stopping a crucial 2-point conversion attempt.

The game set the stage for a thrilling finish, with Murray’s strategic plays, aided by tight end Trey McBride, and ultimately a game-winning 23-yard field goal by kicker Matt Prater. Running back James Conner’s smart play, intentionally going down at the 2-yard line to run out the clock, secured the victory.

Murray’s performance, especially considering his return from injury, impressed everyone, including defensive coordinator Sean Gannon, who had emphasized managing expectations. The team celebrated the win, recognizing the significance of having key players like Murray and Conner back on the field.

Key highlights included McBride’s 100-yard-plus game, Prater’s impressive field goals, and the defensive efforts led by players like BJ Ojulari and Dennis Gardeck. The positive energy throughout the week, marked by the return of key players, contributed to the team’s confidence and determination, setting the stage for an exciting second half of the season.
