AC Milan’s fullback Alessandro Florenzi is reportedly the latest Italian player to be investigated by Turin prosecutors in connection with footballers allegedly using unauthorized websites for betting on games, as per Italian media reports on Wednesday. The investigation, which is part of a broader case, has already resulted in Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali and Juventus’ Nicolò Fagioli receiving bans of 10 and seven months, respectively, from the Italian soccer federation.

Aston Villa’s Nicolò Zaniolo is also under investigation, although he has stated that he did not engage in betting on games. Florenzi, who was previously a teammate of Zaniolo at Roma, has not provided an immediate comment on the matter. It is anticipated that he may be summoned for questioning by prosecutors in the coming days, as reported by the LaPresse news agency. There is also a possibility of an inquiry being opened by the soccer federation.

The 32-year-old Florenzi, who joined AC Milan last year with a contract running through 2024-25, played a role in Italy’s European Championship victory in 2021. The club has not yet responded to requests for comment on the situation.
