Carlos Corberan’s team currently holds the seventh position in the Championship league standings, and Robinson believes that the Baggies’ manager is performing admirably given the financial constraints. Robinson highlighted the squad’s current thinness due to injuries sidelining players like Daryl Dike, John Swift, and Josh Maja.
Despite being only 21 years old, Gardner-Hickman was loaned to Bristol City in the summer and has already made 13 appearances for the Robins.
Robinson expressed his view that Gardner-Hickman is a valuable squad player, making the decision to loan him out seem perplexing.
“I think at this moment in time he’s done a great job, especially with the limited funds he’s had to work with”, Robinson told the Express & Star.
“The squad is down to the bare bones, he’s had to let players go – good players in my eyes, like Taylor Gardner-Hickman, good footballers who you’d keep as squad players, I found that strange.”
Bristol City secured an option to buy in Gardner-Hickman’s loan agreement, raising the possibility that the defender may not return to the Hawthorns next summer.
