Dan Ashworth, the football director at Newcastle United, is a target for Manchester United.

According to The Sun, Ashworth is wanted by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who will oversee football operations following the confirmation of his purchase of a 25% share in United.

Ratcliffe wants Ashworth and a top-tier scout to join the Old Trafford directors team.

Newcastle is preparing backup plans and is aware of the interest.

Being close to Toon manager Eddie Howe, Richard Hughes, the chief of Bournemouth, is considered a potential Ashworth replacement.
