Carlisle United boss Paul Simpson has hailed Crystal Palace loanee Luke Plange for the ‘great character’ he showed at the weekend.

In League One, Carlisle United secured a 2-2 draw against Northampton Town at home, with 21-year-old Plange delivering an impressive performance as the focal point of the Cumbrians’ attack against the Cobblers.

Manager Simpson commended Plange’s resilience and character in the match, stating in a report by the News & Star, “I just thought it was great character he’s shown [against Northampton], and that’s why he’s been sent here – to learn these little things, or big things in fact, how to deal with problems, how to deal with adversity like he had to.” Simpson expressed trust in Plange, emphasizing his solid week of training and his ability to cause problems for the opposition.

Plange, who joined Carlisle United on loan from Crystal Palace during the summer, was sought after to enhance competition and depth in the attacking lineup. Having made 22 appearances and contributing two goals, Plange’s loan stint has been a valuable experience for both the player and the club.

Previously associated with Arsenal and later with Derby County, Plange made a breakthrough in Derby’s first team during their time in the Championship. His success led to a move to Crystal Palace, although he has not yet made a competitive appearance for the Premier League side. Loaned out to Belgian club Molenbeek initially and later to Lincoln last winter, Plange has been on a developmental journey to refine his skills.

Looking ahead, Carlisle United, bolstered by their recent signing Luke Armstrong from Harrogate Town, is gearing up for their upcoming match against Cheltenham Town this weekend.
