Missouri Adds Experienced Miami Linebacker Transfer Corey Flagg Jr.

Missouri Tigers head coach Eli Drinkwitz secures his second linebacker from the transfer portal, making waves in the recruiting scene. The latest addition is Corey Flagg Jr. from the Miami Hurricanes.

Flagg brings a wealth of experience to bolster the Tigers’ defense, having tallied 179 total tackles and 5.5 sacks during his tenure with the Hurricanes. In the recent season, he notched 48 tackles and forced a fumble, ranking as the fourth leading tackler alongside three potential NFL draft prospects.

Despite not starting this season, Flagg made a significant impact, showcasing his versatility. His decision to transfer may be attributed to his desire for a starting role. Nonetheless, he has prior starting experience, having started all 12 games in 2021 and nine games in 2022.

With one more year of eligibility, Flagg’s arrival addresses the gap left by top linebacker Ty’Ron Hopper, who is entering the NFL Draft. The return of senior Chuck Hicks and the promising performance of junior linebacker Triston Newson provide additional strength to the Tigers’ linebacker corps.

In addition to Flagg, the Tigers recently acquired Georgia linebacker Darris Smith. This influx of experienced linebackers complements incoming freshmen Brian Huff and Nicholas Rodriguez.

As the transfer portal remains active during the offseason, the Tigers stay vigilant for potential additions and departures. Notably, the pursuit of Florida defensive lineman Chris McClellan, who is considering Oklahoma, Missouri, and Colorado, adds intrigue to the team’s future roster developments.
