The Michigan Wolverines faced a significant setback to their 2025 recruiting class on Monday evening as Chris Ewald, a four-star cornerback prospect and the highest-ranked player in Michigan’s class at No. 86 overall, announced his decommitment from the program.

Hailing from Florida, the 6-foot, 160-pound player initially pledged to Michigan in December 2022, marking the first commitment for Michigan’s 2025 class. Despite his early commitment, Ewald, who hails from the southern region and was heavily pursued by programs like Georgia, Miami, and Florida State, decided to explore other options. He had scheduled visits to these programs for this month, diverting attention from Michigan, making it challenging for the Wolverines to retain his commitment. The decommitment is unfortunate, especially considering Ewald’s early commitment to the program.

As of now, the Wolverines’ 2025 class is anchored by commitments from four-star quarterback Carter Smith, four-star defensive lineman Bobby Kanka, and four-star tight end Eli Owens.
