On Saturday morning, Travaris Robinson, the defensive backs coach for Alabama, was named as the co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach for Georgia.

Having played at Auburn, Robinson initiated his coaching journey there and has since worked at five distinct SEC schools, namely Auburn, Florida, South Carolina, Alabama, and now Georgia.

Robinson joined Alabama in the 2021 season, and following Kevin Steele’s retirement, there was speculation about him potentially filling the Crimson Tide’s defensive coordinator position. However, with both Nick Saban retiring and Alabama appointing Kalen DeBoer as the new head coach, the opportunity arises for DeBoer to assemble his own coaching staff across all positions.

In 2024, Robinson played a pivotal role as the primary recruiter for several of Alabama’s returning defensive backs, including notable names like Caleb Downs, Dezz Ricks, and Jahlil Hurley. His recruiting efforts also extended to securing commitments from highly-regarded prospects in Alabama’s 2024 recruiting class, such as the 5-star Jaylen Mbakwe and 4-star Zavier Mincey.

Assuming the responsibilities previously held by Will Muschamp on the Bulldogs’ staff, who is transitioning into an analyst role to prioritize family time, Robinson becomes the third assistant that Georgia head coach Kirby Smart has attracted from Alabama. Smart had previously brought in Scott Cochrane as the special teams coordinator and later elevated Dan Lanning, initially a graduate assistant, who has now ascended to the position of head coach at Oregon.
