Sean Mannion has officially retired after a nine-season stint in the NFL as a journeyman quarterback. Despite bidding farewell to playing, Mannion is making a swift transition to coaching, having accepted a position on the coaching staff of the Green Bay Packers under head coach Matt LaFleur, as reported by ESPN. Although the specific title wasn’t disclosed, the 31-year-old is expected to focus on working with quarterbacks and the passing game.

As part of the current Packers coaching lineup under LaFleur, Adam Stenavich serves as the offensive coordinator, supported by Tom Clements as the quarterbacks coach and Jason Vrable as the wide receivers and passing game coordinator.

Mannion’s coaching role will involve collaborating with quarterback Jordan Love, who is set to embark on his second season as the primary starter. Love showcased his skills when stepping in for Aaron Rodgers, guiding the Packers to the divisional round and securing an upset victory against the Dallas Cowboys.

The former third-round pick, initially drafted by the St. Louis Rams in 2015 out of Oregon State, had a diverse career, including stints with the Rams (later moved to Los Angeles), the Vikings (from 2019), and the Seahawks. Mannion’s final year in the league in 2023 involved bouncing between the Vikings and Seahawks, starting with his signing onto the Vikings’ practice squad in mid-October and subsequently joining the Seahawks’ practice unit after his release in late November.

Throughout his career, Mannion had three different tenures with both the Vikings and the Seahawks. He ended his playing career with a record of 0-3 as a starter, completing 60.9% of his passes for a total of 573 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions.
