Confirmed by the Washington Commanders, Blough has taken on the role of assistant quarterbacks coach, joining the team’s restructured coaching staff.

Blough will have the opportunity to work alongside Kliff Kingsbury, the Commanders’ offensive coordinator and former head coach of the Cardinals, who was also Blough’s coach during his time in Arizona.

In the 2022 season, which marked Kingsbury’s final season in Arizona before his dismissal, Blough played and started in two games, completing 35 out of 58 passes for 402 yards and two touchdowns. A native of Carrollton, Texas, Blough re-signed with the Cardinals in the previous off-season but was released on August 29, 2023.

Throughout his NFL career, Blough accumulated a total of 1,435 passing yards, six touchdowns, and nine interceptions in nine games. Prior to his brief stint with the Cardinals, he played for the Detroit Lions for three seasons (2019-2021).

Following his departure from Arizona, Blough returned to Detroit, where he was part of their practice squad for the remainder of the last season before his contract expired a month ago.

Now, Kingsbury and Blough will collaborate on the sidelines to revitalize the Commanders’ offense.

The Washington team holds the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, with quarterbacks Drake Maye (UNC) or Caleb Williams (USC) likely to be available for selection.
