Charlie Woerner, a former tight end for both the University of Georgia and the San Francisco 49ers, has finalized an agreement to join the Atlanta Falcons, as per reports. This transfer marks a relatively rare occurrence of a former Georgia Bulldog transitioning to play for the Atlanta Falcons, particularly notable as NFL free agency commenced on Monday. Woerner has secured a three-year contract with the Falcons worth $12 million, according to Michael Rothstein of ESPN.

Having spent the past four seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, Woerner has established himself primarily as a proficient blocker at the end of the line. During his tenure with the 49ers, he accumulated 11 receptions for 120 yards. With the Falcons boasting Kyle Pitts on their roster and recently releasing Jonnu Smith, Woerner is anticipated to continue his role as a reliable blocker in Atlanta.

Woerner’s journey mirrors his time at the University of Georgia, where he fulfilled a similar role. Throughout his four-year stint with the Bulldogs, Woerner recorded 34 receptions for 376 yards and a touchdown. Although he may not boast the flashy statistics typical of modern-day tight ends, Woerner’s commitment to executing the less glamorous aspects of the game at a high level has consistently showcased his value throughout his career.
