In recent times, the New England Patriots have faced significant challenges, marked by their disappointing 4-13 finish in 2023 and the departure of Bill Belichick following a season-ending loss to the New York Jets. Nonetheless, AppleTV has launched “The Dynasty,” a documentary series chronicling the team’s 20-season journey from Brady’s draft day in 2000 to his departure for Tampa Bay in 2020.
While the series was generally well-received during its month-long, ten-episode run, an increasing number of former Patriots players, including Rob Gronkowski, and current GM Robert Kraft, have expressed dissatisfaction with how the filmmakers and Apple portrayed Belichick’s tenure, feeling that the story missed the mark.
Ty Law Joins Vince Wilfork, Other Legends in Sounding Off About “The Dynasty”
Ty Law, along with Vince Wilfork and others, has joined in criticizing the AppleTV docuseries this week. Law, who contributed about a day’s worth of sound bites for the series, shared with fellow Patriots legend Julian Edelman his experience working on the documentary and his perception that it continues to portray Bill Belichick in a negative light, as reported by Gayle Troiani of NESN and the “Games with Names” Podcast.
Law even suggested that he believed the series could rival “The Last Dance,” ESPN’s highly successful portrayal of Michael Jordan’s final season with the Chicago Bulls, which will mark its fourth anniversary since the release of its first two episodes on April 19th.
Additionally, Law expressed concerns about the producers’ selective use of his soundbites, echoing a common criticism raised by both former players and Robert Kraft.

Despite the criticisms from the growing list of legends regarding their portrayal in the documentary, the team eagerly anticipates the induction of Brady into the Patriots’ Hall of Fame. On June 12th, the Patriots will celebrate Brady’s accomplishments, opting to waive their typical four-year waiting period. This date holds significance, representing Brady’s six Super Bowl victories and his iconic #12 jersey.
Belichick remains confident in his prospects of finding a job in 2025, if not sooner. Consequently, it may take some time before the mastermind behind the Patriots’ dynasty joins his former quarterback in receiving the highest honor bestowed by the franchise.
