Sidney Crosby, whose contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins runs until the 2024-25 season, is already considering extending his tenure with the team. He announced plans to discuss a potential contract extension with Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas during the offseason.

“I’ll definitely be talking to [general manager Kyle Dubas] and having discussions with him,” Crosby stated. “We’ll see. It’s something we’ll discuss.”

At 36 years old, Crosby hasn’t indicated how many more NHL seasons he intends to play. Despite his age, he remains at the peak of his performance, demonstrated by his impressive stats in the 2023-24 season, where he amassed 94 points in 82 games, tying Wayne Gretzky’s record for the most seasons averaging a point per game in NHL history.

Despite Crosby’s stellar performance, the Penguins missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the second consecutive season, narrowly losing out to the Washington Capitals for the No. 2 Wild Card playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

“It’s disappointing, especially given how we ended the season. We were playing well,” Crosby expressed. “When you miss out by such a narrow margin two years in a row, you inevitably reflect on plays and situations you wish you could redo. It’s a fine line, and unfortunately, we’ve been on the wrong side of it lately.”

Crosby has enjoyed a storied career with the Penguins since being drafted first overall in the 2005 NHL Draft. Throughout his 19-year career, he has been instrumental in leading the team to three Stanley Cup victories (in 2009, 2016, and 2017), accumulating an impressive total of 1,596 points in 1,272 career games. He currently ranks second in Penguins history for total points, trailing only Mario Lemieux.
