Seeking a more prominent role than what he experienced with the 2023-24 Blue Devils, freshman forward Sean Stewart from Duke basketball entered the transfer portal on April 19, still having three years of college eligibility. Ranked eighth among power forwards on the 247Sports portal, Stewart, a former McDonald’s All-American from Montverde Academy (Fla.), has garnered significant attention recently.

Standing at 6-foot-9 and weighing 227 pounds, Stewart, known for his top-tier athleticism, had modest averages of 2.6 points and 3.2 rebounds in just 8.3 minutes per game under Jon Scheyer’s coaching. He is embarking on a visit to Georgetown, as reported by 247Sports’ Travis Branham, and is reportedly contemplating offers only from the Hoyas and Ohio State as he nears a decision on his next destination in the coming week.

Former Duke Basketball Forward Sean Stewart Now Nearing Decision

Stewart is part of a record-breaking seven Blue Devils who have entered the transfer portal this offseason. Among them are notable figures like senior guard Jeremy Roach and sophomore forward Mark Mitchell, along with other departing players such as junior guard Jaylen Blakes, sophomore guard Jaden Schutt, sophomore center Christian Reeves, and freshman forward TJ Power.

Among these seven, only Roach and Mitchell have disclosed their new destinations, with Roach opting for Baylor for his fifth year of eligibility and Mitchell choosing Missouri for his junior season.

Despite the departures, there’s optimism as Duke has secured two quality transfers in Purdue senior forward Mason Gillis and Syracuse sophomore forward Maliq Brown. They’ll complement returning guards Caleb Foster and Tyrese Proctor, both with starting experience, alongside Duke’s highly regarded recruiting class.
