While the Philadelphia Phillies have performed well in 2024, they still have gaps in their lineup, particularly in center field. There’s speculation that the team could capitalize on a potential trade involving a promising player from the Miami Marlins.

The Marlins have initiated a “fire sale,” starting with the trade of Luis Arraez to the San Diego Padres, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. is anticipated to be one of the next players to move.

Philadelphia’s center fielders have struggled, collectively batting just .219/.276/.325 with two home runs this season. Johan Rojas, in particular, has been inconsistent, currently experiencing a slump. Acquiring Chisholm could inject power into the Phillies’ lineup, along with a slightly improved batting average.

At 26 years old, Chisholm holds a career batting line of .243/.305/.444. Despite a downturn in 2024, he could benefit from better support within the Phillies’ lineup.

A significant draw of trading for Chisholm is his team control through 2026 and his relatively low salary of $2.6 million for the current season, making him an economical option in the trade market. While Chisholm hasn’t met the lofty expectations set for him in Miami, injuries have played a role, and a move to Philadelphia could alleviate some pressure.

Notably, the Phillies have history with blockbuster trades with the Marlins, having acquired J.T. Realmuto in 2019.

Miami is seeking offensive talent in return for Chisholm, suggesting that prospects like Aidan Miller or Justin Crawford could be involved. While Arraez didn’t command top 100 prospects in his trade, the asking price for Chisholm is likely to be higher.
