That’s the right choice; a father should be there for such moments.
How involved a father is in the birth is up to him, but he should be there. Unfortunately, some in the NBA prioritize the game over their own children. Gobert skipped Game 2 of the NBA Western Conference Semifinals to attend the birth of his child.
The Minnesota Timberwolves managed fine without him, delivering a big win to the Denver Nuggets without Gobert on the court. It was the right move, but some disagree, and frankly, they’re wrong.
It’s not surprising that Gilbert Arenas, known for controversial opinions, decided to criticize Gobert for his decision. He’s among the worst sports personalities, comparable to Ryan Hollis and Skip Bayless.

Arenas further reveals his narrow-mindedness on a recent episode of his Gilbert Arenas show, suggesting that the baby would be there after the game. However, he fails to recognize the real dangers of childbirth. What if something had gone wrong? Would he still have had the audacity to say what he did if Gobert’s child or wife had suffered a catastrophic complication?
Arenas might not have the best reputation, but Gobert prioritizing his family over a game is something every parent, especially every father, should do. Gobert has responsibilities beyond basketball, and it’s commendable that he understands that. Arenas continues to show himself as an unserious commentator.
