The Los Angeles Rams have an impressive depth chart at running back for the upcoming 2024 season, featuring standout performers such as Kyren Williams, who ranked third in rushing yards in the NFL in 2023, rookie Blake Corum drafted in the third round, and veteran third-down specialist Boston Scott. Additionally, rotational backs Ronnie Rivers and Zach Evans are vying for spots in a competitive running back group. While having a wealth of talent is advantageous, it appears that the Rams may already be facing a need for it.

Head coach Sean McVay confirmed on Tuesday that Williams, expected to be the starter, will be sidelined for the rest of OTAs due to a foot injury. McVay reassured that it’s not a major concern and Williams should be ready for training camp, but it’s a precautionary measure.

Williams had a breakout season in 2023, ranking third in rushing yards and tied for fifth in rushing touchdowns despite playing only 12 games. However, injuries have been a recurring issue throughout his tenure with the Rams, including a broken foot in his rookie camp, a season-ending high ankle sprain, and missed games due to subsequent injuries.

The decision to draft Corum in the third round raised eyebrows given Williams’ strong performance in 2023, but considering his injury history, it now seems more strategic. Corum shares a similar playing style with Williams, and the Rams may be banking on his ability to step up in case Williams is sidelined again.

While the Rams’ offense looks promising, they’ll need all key players, including Williams, on the field for success. Hopefully, this setback will be minor, and Williams, along with the entire team, will enjoy a healthy and prosperous season.
