The Baltimore Ravens have said goodbye to several defensive coaches recently. One notable departure is Mike Macdonald, who left his position as the Ravens’ defensive coordinator to take on the role of head coach for the Seattle Seahawks.

Macdonald had been considered for various head coaching positions, but ultimately he accepted the opportunity to lead the Seahawks, becoming their ninth head coach in franchise history.

Having worked closely with Ravens head coach John Harbaugh for much of the past decade, there’s confidence from Harbaugh that Macdonald, known for his defensive expertise, will excel in his new role with the Seahawks.

Speaking at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, Harbaugh expressed his belief in Macdonald’s abilities, highlighting his qualities as a coach and his dedication to the game. Harbaugh recalled how Macdonald’s talents were previously questioned, but now his success speaks for itself.

With Macdonald’s departure, the Ravens promoted Zach Orr to the position of defensive coordinator. The team will have high expectations for Orr in the upcoming 2024 season, particularly given the strong performance of the Ravens’ defense, which ranked in the top five in several key statistical categories, including points per game allowed (16.5).
