The Ohio State football team experienced a quiet first week in the Spring transfer portal, with little excitement. However, this doesn’t mean there was no activity. Historically, the Spring window isn’t very eventful. Last year, the Buckeyes acquired starting offensive tackle Josh Simmons from it, but generally, it tends to be quiet. Here’s the latest news on Ohio State football and the transfer portal:

Former Buckeye defensive back finds a new home

Cedrick Hawkins, a former four-star safety recruit from the class of 2023, has decided to transfer to UCF, his home state in Florida. His decision to enter the transfer portal was a bit unexpected, likely influenced by Caleb Downs joining the program and Lathan Ransom deciding to remain in school. Hawkins didn’t see any game time last season as a true freshman for the Buckeyes and only shed his black strip in December. Hopefu

lly, his move back to Florida proves to be a positive one for his career.

Former Buckeye RB takes a visit out west

Dallan Hayden, a former Ohio State running back, paid a visit to Coach Prime out in Colorado over the weekend. Hayden’s tough running style could be a good match for the Buffs, especially paired with Shedeur Sanders. However, Hayden has plenty of options, being one of the top running backs in the Spring transfer window. Along with Colorado, he’s also being pursued by Georgia Tech, Louisville, UCLA, Auburn, and Virginia Tech.

Depth piece for the offensive line?

Ryan Day has expressed interest in adding another depth piece to the offensive line during the Spring. A former starting offensive tackle, Reuben Unije, has recently entered the transfer portal, sparking some intrigue. Unije started 11 games at right tackle last season for Houston but transferred to Louisville in December. However, it seems his time there wasn’t satisfying. As a redshirt senior, he might be interested in being a backup swing tackle for a national championship contender. At the very least, he would be worth a phone call.
