Donovan Mitchell remarked that both he and the Cleveland Cavaliers faced a formidable challenge in the first round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs against Paolo Banchero and the Orlando Magic. Despite the Cavs ultimately prevailing in a hard-fought series that went the distance to Game 7, the Magic, led by Banchero, made a remarkable comeback from a 2-0 deficit, showcasing their resilience.

Although the Magic didn’t achieve the outcome they desired, their performance sent a powerful message throughout the league. Mitchell, acknowledging Banchero’s impact, issued a noteworthy statement regarding the emerging talent, suggesting that Banchero’s prowess on the court is bound to make waves in the NBA.

The Cleveland Cavaliers successfully fought back in Game 7 to secure a second-round berth.

The Cavaliers initially fell behind the Magic, trailing by up to 18 points in the first half. However, they regrouped and managed to reduce the deficit, ultimately seizing control of the game in the second half. True to form, Mitchell led the charge for Cleveland, contributing 39 points along with nine rebounds and five assists.

Meanwhile, the Magic relied on Banchero, who delivered 38 points despite shooting 10/28 from the field, but excelled with 15/18 from the free throw line. Throughout the series, Banchero maintained an impressive average of 27.0 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game while shooting at 45.6 percent from the field and 40.0 percent from three-point range.
